What is a Male Pelvic Scan?
A male Pelvic ultrasound scan is generally used to view the urinary bladder, seminal vesicles and the prostate gland.
Why I might need
this scan?
It may be requested in cases of
- Pelvic Pain
- Pelvic Mass
- Difficulty In Passing Urine
- Increased Urgency In Passing Urine
- Prostatic Enlargement
- Suspected Prostatic Malignancy
- Urinary Incontinence
What to expect
during the scan?
Usually you are required to drink at least a litre of water prior to the examination to ensure you have a full bladder during the scan for greatly enhanced visualization of the pelvic organs. During this period, please do not empty your bladder. Other than that no further preparation is required.

What do I get with
this scan?
A radiologist’s written report of the findings will be provided to your referring practitioner, with images where necessary, to demonstrate abnormal findings.
