What is an Abdominal Scan

Abdominal ultrasound scans can be done to look at the organs and blood vessels in the abdomen. The most common reason to have an abdominal ultrasound scan is to find a cause for abdominal pain. However, you may have an abdominal ultrasound scan if you have other symptoms or if your doctor is concerned about the results of other tests, for example blood test results.

How to
prepare?

You must be fasting for at least 8 hours prior to the scan. You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your ultrasound exam. Be prepared to spend at least thirty minutes at the clinic for this test.

A radiologist’s written report of the findings will be provided to your referring practitioner, with images where necessary, to demonstrate abnormal findings.
